For the month of May, residents of the Village of Canton are encouraged to relax and watch the grass grow. No or Low Mow May is the name of a practice many communities are adopting to help our pollinators. Pollinators such as bees, butterflies and other creatures are essential to the ecosystem and provide critical pollination services to over 180,000 different plant species and more than 1200 crops. Do you plan to participate in ’No or Low Mow May’ to help pollinators in St. Lawrence County?

We go where no one else will go to help these animals. We are looking for a compassionate, hard-working person who loves and appreciates animals. We ask for 2 years dog handling & 2 years pet daycare & boarding experience or some other position that involves animal care. This position would involve providing a high level of sanitation, and taking care of the dogs, kennels and common places. You would also interact with veterinarians, kennel techs, and animal care specialists to ensure the dogs receive the best care. Responsibilities include cleaning cages, kennels, outdoor park areas and daily maintenance routines. Various shifts needed, including weekends as needed. Pay $ 15 per hour. The Massena Joint Recreation Commission is seeking qualified applicants for the title of Seasonal Therapeutic Recreation Program Director. The position will be for up to 25 hours a week for the duration of the six-week program starting June 27, 2024 and ending August 9, 2024. The Therapeutic Recreation Program Director would have the opportunity to join the NYS Retirement System. Duties of the position: The Therapeutic Program Director is responsible for planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall operations for a quality summer therapeutic program. The Program Director supervises and trains staff members while ensuring adherence to all Massena Recreation policies and procedures. The successful candidate must have a proven ability to supervise employees, organize and schedule work assignments. The successful candidate must possess effective listening and communication skills with both children and adults. Basic Microsoft Office experience is also preferred. A college degree is also required.
