In a battle between two of the top teams in the nation, 16th-ranked Clarkson University showcased a balanced effort in skating past No.15 Union College in a key ECAC Hockey matchup before 2,640 fans at Cheel Arena on Friday night.

Five different Golden Knights scored goals, highlighted by first career tallies from three freshmen, and 11 Clarkson players recorded at least one point as the Green and Gold extended their season-long win streak to five games.

Junior Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN) was strong again between the pipes with a 23-save effort to help the Knights improve to 13-6 overall and 4-3 in the conference.

Clarkson will close out its final game at home for the month of January with a 7:00 p.m. faceoff on Saturday vs. Rensselaer.

Clarkson came out strong against the Dutchmen (10-6-4, 3-5-1) and scored twice in the opening period to set the tone early.

Junior Haralds Egle (Liepaja, Latvia) continued his hot streak, tipping in a shot from the point by junior defenseman Jordan Schneider (Toronto, ONT) just under the crossbar at 4:45 for his ninth goal of the season and fourth point in the last three games. Junior Nico Sturm (Augsburg, Germany) also assisted for his team-high 13 assist and 22nd point of the season. The Knights' co-captain has tallied at least one point in 17 of 19 games.

Clarkson defensemen have played a significant role in the Green and Gold's offense this season and the Knights' blueline contributed again midway through the period. Freshman defenseman Michael Underwood (Bloomfield, MI) made it 2-0 at 11:27 when his shot from the point made its way through traffic for his first career goal. Senior Marly Quince (Sioux Lookout, ONT) and sophomore John Carter MacLean (Basking Ridge, NJ) assisted.

The Knights added two more goals in the middle frame to take a commanding 4-0 lead through 40 minutes.

Junior co-captain Devin Brosseau (St. Lambert, QUE) fired in a quick low shot from the right circle at 9:58 after a taking a pass from senior defenseman Aaron Thow (Toronto, ONT) for his fifth goal of the season. Freshman Josh Dunne (O'Fallon, MO) also assisted.

With 1:37 remaining in the period, freshman Anthony Callin (Middleton, WI) recorded his first career point when he corralled a loose puck at the Union blueline, skated past a couple of Dutchmen defenders and fired in a wrist shot from the right circle for an unassisted goal.

Union spoiled Kielly's shutout bid when the visitors took advantage of one of the few Clarkson miscues on the night as Anthony Rinaldi capitalized on a turnover deep in the Knights' zone and scored the Dutchmen's lone goal at 12:12 of the final frame.

With 15.1 seconds remaining, freshman Chris Klack (Georgetown, ONT) scored into an empty net to seal the deal with his first career goal. Underwood and Quince assisted to pick up their second points of the game.

Union held a slight 24-23 edge in shots.

Clarkson's penalty kill continued to excel, shutting down all three of the Dutchmen's man-advantage opportunities. The Knights have allowed just one power-play goal in the last 39 attempts by the opponents over the last 11 games, and have killed off 21 straight.
