William M. Almond, 84, Massena

MASSENA – William M. Almond, 84, of Jefferson Ave and formerly of Westville, passed away Sunday morning, April 21, 2024, at his home.

William was born June 21, 1939, in Fort Covington, the son of the late Jennings and Mary (Bodway) Almond.

Growing up in Fort Covington, he attended rural schools.

On December 2, 1956, he entered the US Army, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge.

He returned back to the north country and married Gloria Robinson on June 23, 1962, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Constable with Msgr. Euclid Elie, officiating. She predeceased him on October 31, 2011.

William worked in pot repair at Alcoa for 34 years retiring in 2001.

He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

William is survived by his daughters, Lea-Ann Almond of Dinwiddie, Virginia and Lori and Greg Beaudoin of Massena; his grandchildren, Jason Fisher, Crystal Lyndsey, Nicole Harrison, Rebecca Plourde, Ryan Laffin, and Hattie Laffin-Almond; 5 great grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Beaulah Almond of Fort Covington; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, Cory Michael Almond on October 17, 2010; his brothers, Clayton, Alfred, Franklin, and John Almond; and his sisters, Marie Ayers and Gertrude Phillips.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated May 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Constable.

His family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 AM prior to the mass.

Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Westville.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider memorial contributions to be made in his memory to the Massena Rescue Squad.
