WIC coordinator explains program available in North Country

To the Editor:

I would like to offer a brief explanation of the WIC Program and how we work, to help you understand the important role you play in our success.

WIC is a supplemental food program helping Women, Infants and Children.

We travel throughout St. Lawrence County to nine different towns, bringing with us nutritional education materials and food vouchers for our clients.

Our goal is to promote better nutritional health in pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, as well as infants and children under the age of five.

Many of our clients are working or attending college and find it difficult to attend clinics.

For example, if an expecting mother lives in Massena but works in Potsdam, she would benefit from the Potsdam Clinic as she is there during working hours.

By making our clients aware of the different clinic locations and dates we will be able to help more people keep their WIC appointments.
