LOCAL EVENTS ON VETERAN’S DAY
POOP Project shows
POTSDAM: Clarkson University will host artist, educator and activist Shawn Shafner to discuss The POOP (People’s Own Organic Power) Project; will give two performances at Clarkson, “How the Potty Trained Us,” a stand-up/lecture-performance, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Bertrand H. Snell Hall Room 214, “Assume the Throne,” will be held at 7:15 p.m. in Bertrand H. Snell Hall Room 175; Shafner’s mission is focused upon sustainable sanitation and the impact it has on lives on a global scale; The POOP Project began in 2010 in New York City and since then has made an impact on an international level.
Veterans Day events
HEUVELTON: Veterans Day ceremony, organized by Amvets Post 1997 at the town hall, 11 a.m., luncheon held at post afterwards.
Ladies auxiliary meets
HEUVELTON: Amvets Ladies Auxiliary meets, Amvets Post 1997, 107 State St., 6:30 p.m.
Dedication ceremony
STOCKHOLM: A dedication ceremony for the memorial that honors veterans who served in WWII and whom resided in the Town of Stockholm will be held at 10 a.m. at the Stockholm Town Office building. Services will be performed by the American Legion and a special dedication to honor James Green Sr., who initiated this endeavor but passed away on October 13, 2019.
Bingo with Cashball
OGDENSBURG: Ogdensburg Knights of Columbus Bingo with cashball, 721 Hasbrouck St., every Monday night starting at 7 p.m.; doors open at 5 p.m., full concession with weekly specials 315-393-7990; (until July 2020).
Kids’ Lego challenge
POTSDAM: A series of timed mini-builds to test your creativity: on your marks, get set, build; ages 8-12; 1-2 p.m; Potsdam Public Library; register on library’s facebook page.
Pork dinner
EDWARDS: Veterans Day pork dinner; 4-7 p.m.; Edwards Fire Hall, sponsored by the Lions Club; includes pork, potatoes/gravy, vegetable, water/coffee, dessert; free for veterans; others $10.
Free turkey dinner for vets
MASSENA: There will be a turkey dinner with trimmings served at the Massena Elks Lodge, Bowers Street, after conclusion of ceremonies in Veterans Park until 2 p.m. It is free to all veterans.
Pancake breakfast
OGDENSBURG: Salvation Army, 401 Franklin St., will host a pancake breakfast to honor local veterans (who eat for free) and to kick off the annual Red Kettle Campaign, 8-11 a.m.; $8, children 12 and under $5; take-out and Towers delivery available; bouncy houses available for children as well.
