Blue Christmas

LISBON -- First Congregational United Church of Christ will hold a Blue Christmas service on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend this special service of remembrance and hope. First Congregational UCC is located at the corner of County Route 28 and Five Mile Line Road in Lisbon. Monetary donations will be accepted, but are not expected, to benefit the Lisbon Food Pantry.

Blood drive

POTSDAM – St. Lawrence Health is sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive on Friday, Dec. 15, at the Potsdam Presbyterian Church, 42 Elm St, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donors must be healthy, at least 16 years of age, and weigh at least 110 lbs. Please consider a Double Red donation if you are O Neg, O Pos, A Neg, or B Neg. Donors can pre-register using RapidPass (www.redcrossblood.org/rapidpass). Pre-registration can only be completed the day of the drive prior to arrival. Registration can be made online at www.redcrossblood.org, or by contacting 1 (800) RED CROSS. First time donors and walk-ins are welcome.

A Celtic Christmas

OGDENSBURG – The Christmas season will be celebrated Irish-style when the professional touring company “A Taste of Ireland” brings “A Celtic Christmas” to George Hall Auditorium on Dec. 15 as part of the Ogdensburg Command Performances series. The 7 p.m. staging will bring together the best musicians and Irish dancers from Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Ornament bar

WADDINGTON – On Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15 and 16, The Gallery at Lake Saint Lawrence Arts is sponsoring an "Ornament Bar" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 14 Main St. For this ornament-making workshop you will receive a kit with three base ornaments and unlimited access to the gallery’s embellishment bar. Mrs. Claus Cookie Shop

COLTON — The Colton Community Church, 11 Church St., is hosting Mrs. Claus Cookie Shop on Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m. The free event will feature iced sugar cookies, jelly thumbprints, candy cane bursts, gingerbread, snow balls, hot cocoa and other Christmas treats. Attendees will be able to decorate cookies, visit with Santa, throw snowballs at the Grinch, visit the Photo Booth, mail a letter to the North Pole, sing carols with accordion music by Danny Klebes, chat with elves, give Frosty a hug and build a s’more around a bonfire.

Holiday Fund fundraiser

POTSDAM -- McDuff’s Pub and Grill and local real estate company NorthBrook Rentals will hold a fundraiser to benefit the Potsdam Holiday Fund on Friday, Dec. 15 9 p.m.-1 a.m. with Downtown The Band. A voluntary donation will be collected at the door and for song requests. Specialty drinks will be sold with a portion of the proceeds donated to the fund.

Saturday, Dec. 16

Holiday tour

OGDENSBURG – This year’s Ogdensburg History Museum’s Holiday Tour on Saturday, Dec. 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. will feature the historic, award winning Sherman Inn and Tom and Brittanie Kelso’s home. Tickets are available at the Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce at 318 Ford Street and the Ogdensburg History Museum at 206 Ford Street, the Blevins building, just down the hall from the Department of Motor Vehicles. Tickets are $5 donation for museum members and $10 donations for non members. All proceeds will benefit the Ogdensburg History Museum. Holiday Fun event

NORFOLK – The Community Lunch Program for Kids and Neighbors Helping Neighbors will be hosting a Holiday Fun Event for children on Saturday, Dec. 16 from 1-3 p.m. at the Norfolk Hepburn Library Community Room. Children will have a chance to frost and decorate holiday cookies, listen to Christmas and Hanukkah stories, make ornaments/holiday crafts, as well as play the Dreidel Game.

Breakfast with Santa

RICHVILLE – Breakfast with Santa will be held Dec. 16 from 9-11 a.m. at the Richville Volunteer Fire Department, 71 Main St. The menu will include pancakes, eggs, sausage, juice, hot chocolate, and coffee. Children under 2 years old are free, ages 3-10 is $5, and ages 11 and up is $9. Santa will visit with the children and hand out goodies. Erika Woodrow from Freeze Frame Photography has generously donated her time and expertise for photo opportunities.

Santa visits DeKalb

DEKALB JUNCTION – The DeKalb Volunteer Fire Department will be chauffeuring Santa Claus around DeKalb Junction via fire truck on Saturday, Dec. 16 starting at 6 p.m. Children will have the opportunity to meet with Santa.

Paid Time Off

DEKALB JUNCTION – The band Paid Time Off will perform at the Olde DeKalb Hotel, 4348 U.S. Highway 11, on Dec. 16 from 8 p.m.-12 a.m. Food, cold beer. Info: 315-347-4200.

North Lawrence Santa Parade

NORTH LAWRENCE — The annual Santa Parade will take place Saturday, Dec. 16, starting at 7 p.m on Factory Street near the North Lawrence Fire Station. The parade route proceeds to Rt. 11C, Grove St., Church St., Co. Rt. 55, and then back to Rt. 11C .

Firefly

CANTON -- The TAUNY Center, 53 Main St., will stage a concert by the band Firefly on Saturday, Dec. 16 from 12-2 p.m. Firefly is a four-piece folk/pop cover band from Potsdam. The band consists of Jennifer Kessler (vocals/violin), Mark Seymour (percussion), Ryan Deuel (bass/guitar) and Matt Bullwinkel (keys). The group is inspired by Friday night fire sitting and artists like Madison Cunningham, Rufus Wainwright and Bonnie Raitt.

Christmas at Trinity

MORLEY -- A traditional service of lessons and carols will be held at Trinity Chapel in Morley on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 5 p.m. Music will be provided by the fiddler Don Woodcock, cellist Rachel O’Donnell, and others. It is rumored that Father Christmas (a.k.a. Father Michael O’Donnell) will make an appearance with treats for children. There will be light refreshments and conversation afterwards. Akwesasne Women Singers

CANTON — The TAUNY Center, 53 Main St., will present its next Fiddling Bear Concert featuring the Akwesasne Women Singers on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. Admission is $15 and can be purchased at www.tauny.org/shop . Tickets are limited. Children 10 and under are welcome to attend for free. What began in the 1980s when female members of the Swamp family first organized the Women’s Singing Society of Akwesasne has become an important cultural group for the Mohawk people. With as many as 14 women and girls and a core group of six or eight, they perform traditional songs and new compositions by their leader, Theresa Bear Fox. The singing is occasionally accompanied by rattles and water drums.

Breakfast with Santa

WADDINGTON -- Sweeter Creations Sugar House, 3345 State Highway 345, will host a Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 16 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Cost: adults $10, children 3 and older $5. Under 5 free. Pancakes and sausage.

BackWater Duo

MASSENA — The BackWater Duo will play Friday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. at Chase's Riverside Dining, 829 State Highway 131.

Samosas, Chutney and Chai

CANTON — The TAUNY Center, 53 Main St., presents Kitchen Stories: Samosas, Chutney and Chai with Geetika and Rajiv Narula on Saturday, Dec. 16, from 2-4 p.m. Admission is $20. Kids 5 and under are welcome to attend for free with an adult. Join Geetika and Rajiv Narula to learn how to make samosas with chutney and chai as they share their stories of India and their passion for cooking and sharing food. Winter Wonderland

LISBON — The public is invited to a Winter Wonderland event at the K-Stone Rescue Ranch’s new arena at 505 Keystone Rd. on Saturday, Dec. 16 from 12-4 p.m. There will be a full petting zoo with horses, mini horses, donkeys, llama, alpacas, sheep, goats, rabbits and black Angus calf. There will also be $4 pony rides, a Santa visit from 1-3 p.m., and kiddie bags for children. Attendees will be able to feed the animals for $3 a cup or two cups for $5.

Classy, brassy holiday concert

POTSDAM – The Orchestra of Northern New York celebrates the holidays with a one-of-a-kind concert when a 23-piece ensemble of trumpets, trombones, horns, tuba and percussion performs Holiday in Brass on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Hosmer Hall. Dr. James Madeja, Professor Emeritus at the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam, guest conducts. Tickets for the holiday concert can be purchased online at onny.org or by calling 315-212-3440. They are $27 adults, $24 seniors, $10 college students, and $5 teens (13-17). Admission for children, 12 and younger, is always free.

TAUNY exhibit

CANTON — The exhibit Creative Alchemy: Adirondack Fragrance and Flavor Farm by Sandy Maine, her son Clark and his wife Yen, will be presented at The TAUNY Center’s Upper Level Gallery starting Dec. 16. Inspired by her love of the Adirondacks, Sandy Maine has spent decades producing soaps, candles, and fragrances from natural materials that she harvests on her farm near Potsdam and in local forests.

Musical Story Time

POTSDAM --Musical Storytime featuring "The Story of Ferdinand" and "Where the Wild Things Are" will be held at Potsdam Public Library Saturday, Dec. 16, at 1 p.m. Mrs. Morrison, Family Literacy Specialist, along with violinist Dr. Yip and guitarist Darrien Knouse will present the two classic children's books with musical accompaniment.

Massena library holiday

MASSENA — Massena Public Library, 41 Glenn St., is hosting three holiday events in one on Dec. 16 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. A bake sale will be held upstairs at the library starting at 9:30 a.m. Also upstairs, music of the season will be performed by Patty Ryan on piano and Ellie Prashaw on vocals. Downstairs will be a used book sale. Friends of the Library can get in early at 9 a.m. New members welcome to join for $5.

Santa at the Silver Leaf

DEKALB JUNCTION – Santa Claus will be at the Silver Leaf Diner, 3231 US Highway 11, on Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with horse-drawn carriage rides, hot cocoa and cookies, and little gifts for the good children of the community.

Stockholm planning board

Caroling & food drive

HERMON – The 9th Annual Caroling & Food Drive will be held Dec. 22 from 6-8 p.m. Carolers will stroll the wintery streets of Hermon and sing while donating and picking up non-perishable food items for the local food pantry.
