New York is changing its high school graduation system over the next several years. Beginning with the class of 2028, students will no longer have to pass a specific set of Regents exams to earn a diploma, although Regents exams will continue to measure achievement of state learning standards. The state is also moving toward a single diploma and, eventually, a competency-based system in which students demonstrate proficiency through multiple forms of assessment.
