MASSENA -- Walter R. “Walt” Bishop, 79, of State Highway 37, unexpectedly passed away on April 14, 2024.
Walt was born August 2, 1944, in Ogdensburg, the son of the late Morris and Francis (Rogers) Bishop.
He attended Heuvelton School and later worked at Reynolds Metals in Massena.
He married Barbara LaBar on August 7, 1965, at St. Patrick’s Church in Hogansburg.
Walter enjoyed hunting, sawing lumber and being outdoors working with his machinery as well as being an excellent golfer.
He was a member of both the Flower Hill Hunting Club and the Raquette River Valley Antique Tractor and Engine Club.
Walter is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sisters, Mary Edna Bishop of Massena and Sandy Harvester of North Dakota; two brothers, Gilbert (Judy) Bishop of Ogdensburg and Robert Bishop of Massena; sisters-in-law, Leona Bishop of Lisbon, Donna Bishop of Massena, Debbie Williams of Florida and Audrey Dishaw of Massena; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Clarcy Stiles and four brothers, Otis, Pete, Morris, Jr., and Richard Bishop.
Per Walter’s request, there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
A celebration of life will take place at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena.
