LISBON -- Lisbon Fire Chief Cory Kroeger says swift action and many hands helped keep an early morning barn fire from spreading.

Kroeger said a barn owned by Brian Cruiksank at 820 County Route 28 was fully engulfed when volunteers arrived on scene at 4 a.m. Jan. 31.

"Luckily we were able to contain it," he said. "They didn't lose any cattle."

Kroeger said that he believed there were roughly 300 cattle in the adjacent barn which was connected by the breezeway.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.

Kroeger also offered appreciation to Heuvelton, Rensselaer Falls, Morristown, Morley and Waddington volunteer fire departments who provided assistance at the scene.

"We had a lot of help," he said.
