In response to “Appreciation Needed for Veterans Who Sacrificed”, I would encourage him to check at the local veterans associations like the American Legion, Amvets, and VFW for events going on around Veterans Day.
Most of the local posts held ceremonies at 11am on Sunday and served food afterwards. Some places had music and other entertainment going on. Some local shops and restaurants held specials for veterans as well.
A popular local steakhouse in Potsdam offered free meals to veterans, as did a popular casino in Akwesasne. Both places offer discounts to veterans every day as well. St Lawrence County has instituted a “Return the Favor” Veterans Discount Program with a huge list of local businesses providing discounts.
That list can be found at the St Lawrence County Clerk’s webpage. As a local veteran, a member of American Legion Post #514, a life member of Amvets Post #265, and the President of the American Legion Riders of Post #925, I think we see tremendous love and support for veterans in St. Lawrence County.
I am very grateful for the respect shown to veterans in the North Country.
