CANTON — Fire crews responded early Saturday morning to a vehicle fire on County Road 25 that threatened a nearby garage, according to Canton Fire.
Canton Fire, Canton Rescue, and County Car 4 were dispatched at 3:08 a.m. to assist Pyrites Fire with the reported blaze, officials said. Canton Engine 7 and Tanker 20 were en route by 3:16 a.m.
Chief Holcomb reportedly arrived on scene and confirmed a car fire within feet of a garage attached to a residence, taking command of the incident. Crews from Engine 7 quickly deployed a 1 ¾-inch hand line, cooling the garage and knocking down the bulk of the fire within five minutes, officials said. Pyrites Fire personnel supplied water via a 2 ½-inch line.
Crews reportedly spent about 40 minutes extinguishing hot spots, containing a fuel leak, and using a thermal imaging camera to ensure no smoldering inside the walls or roof.
Officials said damage was limited to melted siding; the garage and house sustained minimal damage.
No injuries were reported.
All Canton units returned to service at 4:36 a.m., officials said.
Units on scene: Engine 7 (Capt. Gavin), Tanker 20 (D. Johnson), Chief Holcomb (4-4), Chief Johnson (4-3). Mutual aid was provided by Pyrites Fire.
