CANTON – A Utica man who drove his vehicle into the Canton Village Park and fled early this morning, Nov. 27, has been charged by St. Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies.
Diquan B. Spain, 29, faces multiple misdemeanor charges stemming from a motor vehicle accident in the Village of Canton. Spain was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, two counts of criminal mischief: reckless damage to property, reckless driving, operating while registration suspended, aggravated unlicensed operation, and several traffic violations.
Spain found to be the operator of a vehicle that fled from deputies on a traffic stop in the Town of Potsdam, ultimately losing control of the vehicle in the Canton Village Park.
Spain fled the scene on foot and was located a short time later.
Spain was issued appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Potsdam and Canton Town Court at a later date. Deputies were assisted on scene by the Canton Police Department and New York State Police.
