POTSDAM -- More than 350 musicians will join to celebrate the holiday season as SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music hosts the 2014 Crane Candlelight Concerts.
The Crane Chorus and Crane Symphony Orchestra will present two performances, at 3 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 7, in the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall.
This year, the performance will also feature the children's chorus from the Holy Name of Jesus Academy in Massena. The concert will also include the world premieres of works by William Averitt and Gregory Wanamaker.
The concert will feature classic carols, such as "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" and "The First Nowell," alongside new works. There will be two pieces by composer William Averitt on the program, including his 1990 piece, "All Through the Night," and "Alleluia, the Mother Sings," in its world premiere.
Rounding out the program are an arrangement of "Ubi Caritas" by Paul Mealor, as well as "Hannukah Blessings" by Ron Jeffers and "We Are..." by Ysaye Barnwell. The concert will conclude with the world premiere of "Stella Nuova" by Gregory Wanamaker, professor of music composition at The Crane School of Music.
The concerts are free, but donations to support the Crane Chorus Endowment will be accepted at the door.
The concert will also broadcast live on The Crane School of Music YouTube channel at the performance times on Dec. 7.
