NORFOLK — As the nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence, the Hale Cemetery Association is recognizing three Revolutionary War soldiers buried at Hale Cemetery in Norfolk.

The veterans honored include:

  •   Sgt. Phineas Judson (Aug. 29, 1760–March 5, 1839), who served with Capt. Nichol's Company in 1777 and the Connecticut Coast Guard at Stratford in 1778. He later served with Col. Samuel Canfield's militia regiment at the strategic garrison at West Point in 1781.
  •   Pvt. Amos Kimball (1760–1836), who enlisted from Westminster, Massachusetts. Kimball served with Capt. Cogswell's Company in 1780 and with Col. Thomas Stickney's Regiment, part of Gen. John Stark's brigade, in 1777.
  •   Pvt. Samuel Bogue (Aug. 7, 1755–June 10, 1829), who served throughout the Revolutionary War. He served in Capt. James Stoddard's Company in Col. Noadiah Hooker's Connecticut Militia Regiment and was a member of Gen. George Washington's Life Guard.

Hale Cemetery is the final resting place of more than 90 veterans whose service spans the American Revolution, the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

As the nation observes its semiquincentennial, the Hale Cemetery Association honors these three Revolutionary War veterans and all those who have served in the nation's armed forces.
