POTSDAM -- The Town Council plans to extend indefinitely a 15 percent discount now granted on town property taxes for veterans.
The council set a hearing on amending local law for the extension at 6:30 p.m. March 13 in Town Hall.
Clerk Cindy Goliber explained that the law has been on the books since 2009 but is to expire this year after its original 10-year provision.
The amendment would simply remove the expiration and provide for continuation of the discount until the board decides to change it again in the future, if they want to.
“We would take the sunset away and make it permanent,” Goliber said.
The 15 percent comes off of a veteran’s property assessment.
