John Miller III, of DeKalb Junction, watches as Ray Haines, PA, throws a tomahawk during Fort La Presentation Association’s 10th annual Primitive Snowshoe Biathlon held at the St. Lawrence Sportsman Club, Lisbon, March 3. About 25 participants from around St. Lawrence County and beyond, including out of state and Canada, raced a mile and a half through woods, firing two shots at each of five stations, then throwing a tomahawk at the end of the course. Traditional flintlock, percussion or modern in-line firearms were used. This year, however, contestants did not race on snowshoes due to lack of snow. NCNow photo.
