Updated 10:08 a.m. to correct time firefighters responded
PIERREPONT – Three people are homeless after a fire destroyed a dwelling at 6548 County Route 24 Saturday, according to St. Lawrence County fire investigators.
The Hannawa Falls Volunteer Fire Department responded at 4:43 a.m. to the property owned and occupied by Steve and Wendy Stowe.
The Colton, Potsdam and Parishville fire departments provided mutual aid and the Colton Rescue Squad also responded.
Hannawa firefighters returned to the station at 11:18 a.m.
Cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental, investigators said. The building has been declared a total loss.
Investigators noted there were no fire alarms installed and the structure was uninsured. Three people occupied the dwelling, investigators said.
The American Red Cross has been contacted to provide assistance, investigators said.
