The proposed tax increase in Ogdensburg not only unfairly burdens homeowners, but it causes rent to increase. Landlords don't get the STAR program for school taxes and must increase rent to compensate for increases in water, sewer, insurance, taxes and etc. Not only should taxpayers speak up, renters should let city policy makers know how they feel, because enough is enough. Why would any business want to locate in the city limits with a school tax of $26 per thousand and proposed $20 per thousand city tax and $8 per thousand county tax which adds up to $54 per thousand. It takes less than 20 years to buy your property over again. This is a vicious circle that will only end with people moving and less businesses locating here.
