CLAYTON – A War of 1812 privateer replica schooner, the Lynx, will visit Clayton in June.
The 94-foot tall ship will dock at Frink Park Tuesday, June 14 and stay through Monday, June 20.
Its arrival is sponsored by The Ship Watcher. The ship will make its presence known throughout the islands with cannon blasts as they approach the village.
Beginning Wednesday, June 15, the ship will be open to the public for deck tours and sailing excursions to benefit the Lynx Educational Foundation. Deck tours are offered for a $5 donation, children 12 and under free. Daily two-hour sailing excursions are $55 per person, seniors and military $45, and children 12 and under $30. Excursions can be booked in advance by visiting www.theshipwatcher.com or by visiting the ship during the week.
The tall ship Lynx is an interpretation of an actual privateer named Lynx built by Thomas Kemp in 1812 in Fell's Point, Maryland. She was among the first ships to defend American freedom by evading the British naval fleet then blockading American ports and serving in the important privateering efforts. The replica War of 1812 tall ship, with its massive 94-foot tall mainmast and more than 1,200 square foot mainsail, will grace the village for nearly a week.
The event is sponsored by Davidson Auto Group and Lake Ontario Realty.
