OGDENSBURG -- Funeral services for Sylvia M. Berbrich, age 86 of Ogdensburg will be held on Tuesday (May 28, 2024) at 1:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Deacon Mark LaLonde officiating.
Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Heuvelton.
Calling hours will also be held on Tuesday from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the funeral home.
Mrs. Berbrich passed away on Saturday (May 18, 2024) at the Canton Potsdam Hospital.
Surviving are sons, John (Nancy) Berbrich Jr. of Russell and James (Amy) Berbrich of South Carolina; daughters, Maria “Cookie” (Charles) Swanson of North Carolina, Barbara (Tim) Assman of Nebraska, Jeanne Raven (Robin Davis) of Virginia and Jennifer Berbrich (Derrick Conway) of Rensselaer Falls; sister, Gloria McCann of Canada; eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, John in 2000; son, Michael, grandson, Adam Rounds; brothers, James, Joseph, Francis & Donald McCann and sisters, June Gostomski and Miriam Mecca.
Sylvia was born on April 11, 1938, in Cheektowaga, NY, daughter of the late James & Edith (Hiscock) McCann.
She graduated from St. Mary’s School in Buffalo and later married John A. Berbrich on July 6, 1968, in Levittown, NY. After they wed, the couple moved to Long Island.
Sylvia grew up in Cheektowaga and left as soon as she graduated. She moved to NYC and had many adventures before she met John.
During her career she worked in a retail store in Buffalo, sold magazines door-to-door, as a secretary at the 21 Club in Manhattan and for McCadam Cheese in Heuvelton, and later as a bookkeeper for Wadhams Hall for 15 years. She retired in 1998.
She was a former Altar & Rosary member at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church and enjoyed reading (mostly banned books – Jodi Picoult was a favorite), Christmas shopping, traveling, cooking, baking, vacations to Myrtle Beach and spending time with her family.
Sylvia will continue to be remembered for her world-famous fudge, sharing it with friends and family from the North Country to South Carolina. She will be missed.
