SUNY Potsdam senior Pat Corbine was named State University of New York Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Goalie of the Week for the week of March 28-April 3, the league announced Monday.
Corbine, a Canton, N.Y., native, recorded 14 saves as the Bears snapped a four-game losing streak with an 8-7 victory over Brockport in the team’s SUNYAC opener last Saturday. After surrendering just one goal in the first half, the goaltender stopped four shots in the fourth quarter to help quell the Golden Eagles’ late comeback attempt. The win was Corbine’s first of the year.
On Tuesday, Corbine posted 11 saves in a 13-2 defeat at St. Lawrence.
“Pat’s doing what we need him to do at the goaltender position,” Potsdam coach Rick Berkman said. “He’s making the saves we need him to make, as well as a few extras. As a senior, he’s providing good veteran leadership by helping out our new guys on defense.”
For the season, Corbine has a team-best 8.58 goals against average to go along with 32 saves in four games played. An environmental studies major, Corbine is in his fourth season with the Potsdam men’s lacrosse team.
The Bears resume play tomorrow against crosstown rival Clarkson at 4 p.m. at Maxcy Hall.
Each week, SUNYAC sports information directors nominate student-athletes from their respective institutions for each sport. Each player of the week is then selected by the league’s administration.
