POTSDAM —The SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team’s second annual DHC Night in the Fight Against Cancer is Saturday, Jan. 27, when the Bears host SUNY Brockport.
The goal of the event is to recognize all of those affected by the disease by demonstrating support for those fighting and honoring those lost. The tag DHC derives from Bears head coach Chris Bernard's father-in-law Darrell Hampton, who lost his battle with cancer several years ago. The team now uses his initials to stand for Determination, Humor and Courage, key characteristics everyone needs when battling the disease personally or with family and friends.
The American Cancer Society will be at Maxcy Ice Arena during the contest to accept donations from attendees. Any fans making a donation will receive a DHC Potsdam Hockey t-shirt. There will also be a silent auction for Bears team apparel and memorabilia with all proceeds going to the ACS.
The Bears will square off with the Golden Eagles at 7 p.m. that evening as they continue their playoff hunt.
