CANTON -- St. Lawrence University recently hired Cheryl Stuntz to the Absalom Graves Gaines Professorship of Psychology.
Stuntz, an associate professor of psychology, earned her doctorate in sport psychology from the University of Virginia in 2005, and has been teaching at St. Lawrence ever since. Her research examines social influences on motivation and moral development in sports. She teaches courses in sport psychology, personality psychology, positive psychology, introduction to psychology and upper-level seminars on social influences on motivation in sport.
The Gaines Professorship was established in 1912 in memory of The Rev. Absalom Graves Gaines, D.D., LL.D. Gaines served as the president of St. Lawrence’s College of Letters and Science from 1872 to 1888 and was a professor of psychology and ethics as well as political economy from 1872 to 1903.
