CANTON -- St. Lawrence County will fill a recently vacated account clerk position in the treasurer’s office, despite its ongoing hiring freeze.
The finance committee Monday agreed to fill the position after an account clerk was promoted, leaving a vacancy.
The committee agreed that the position was essential to cover the main officer work related to cashiering, aiding taxpayers and answering phone calls.
In 2008 St. Lawrence County implemented a non-essential services hiring freeze, which require board approval before any vacant positions are filled.
