St. Lawrence County suicide prevention gets support from Brookfield

Posted

The St. Lawrence County Suicide Awareness Coalition is thanking Brookfield Renewable North America for an $11,000 donation to support local suicide prevention efforts.

The contribution followed the company’s annual golf tournament in August 2025 and reflects its ongoing commitment to community health and well-being.

Funds raised through the tournament will support the coalition’s prevention, education and outreach efforts across St. Lawrence County. Those initiatives include expanding access to evidence-based training programs such as QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), safeTALK and ASIST; increasing awareness of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline; and supporting programs such as “Chalk the Walk,” bereavement resources and targeted outreach campaigns.

“This contribution from Brookfield Renewable North America reflects a meaningful investment in the mental health of our community,” said Lindsay Best, chair of the St. Lawrence County Suicide Awareness Coalition. “Their support allows us to continue building a coordinated, community-driven approach to suicide prevention, while expanding access to critical resources for individuals and families in need.”

The coalition said it continues to prioritize collaboration with local partners, community organizations and stakeholders to address suicide prevention through education, early intervention and ongoing support services.

Officials said donations like this are critical to sustaining and expanding services, particularly in rural communities where access to care can be limited.

The coalition encourages community members and organizations to support its initiatives and promote open conversations about mental health.
