COLTON — The St. Lawrence County Snowmobile Association will receive $10,000 in trail improvements from Polaris Industries on a crucial four-mile center section of the C8 snowmobile trail.
This 125-mile trail connects three counties in New York, from Lewis County through St. Lawrence County to Franklin County, a press release from the county said.
The NYSDEC requested the Association relocate the four-mile connection between Long Pond Easement and Grasse River Easement to a more environmentally friendly location.
The trail is an old skidder run from logging and was full of brush, large rocks, and stumps.
Although the Association has cleared some obstacles, the trail still requires work, the county said.
Specifically, more rocks need to be removed, ditching and culverts are needed for drainage, and the trail needs to be graded and crowned with gravel.
The relocated trail will be used by snowmobiles in the winter and ATV/UTV in the summer as part of the St. Lawrence County 132-mile Multi-Use Trail System, the press release said.
