St. Lawrence County Public Health touts success fighting Covid and rabies, providing intervention

CANTON —  The St. Lawrence County Public Health Department is highlighting its accomplishments during National County Government Month in April.

In 2023:

  • Nursing staff provided 484 COVID-19 vaccinations;

  • The Rabies Prevention Program organized 22 free vaccine clinics throughout the
county, where 1,783 shots were given to animals;

  • The Early Intervention Service Coordinators completed a total of 347 home visits, and
862 phone meetings;

  • Staff were involved with 45 community outreach events including presentations, wellness
fairs, and educational sessions.

“No one organization can meet the needs of every resident, which is why working together is so important. We are able to share opportunities and resources across departments of government while coming together as a community,” said Carly Zimmermann, Interim Public Health Director.

The theme for this year's National County Government Month  is "Forward Together," which emphasizes the pillars of county government: connecting, inspiring, and leading towards solutions that build trust.

St. Lawrence County's government departments play a vital role in providing public safety and emergency services, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and environmental conservation for its citizens, Zimmermann noted.
