Masonic Lodges in St. Lawrence County are again offering apples for sale to raise funds for local charities.
Their annual Fall Apple Sale is one of their two major fundraisers of the year, and with the exceptional apple crop reported this season, they hope to raise money to help more needy charitable organizations in our area.
This year, the apples will arrive on in Waddington on Oct. 15. Masons from the 13 lodges in the county will gather early in the morning to sort the individual orders, package and deliver them to their customers.
They offer four tasty apple varieties: Cortland, McIntosh, Empire, and Red Delicious, as well as a seasonal favorite, fresh apple cider. Apples cost $4.50 per peck, and $8 a half-bushel. Cider is $5 per gallon.
In the last few years, local charities have struggled to raise money due to the economic climate. The Masons work hard on their two fundraisers, the apple sale in the fall and the citrus sale the winter, to assist charities in their work, which they have done for many years.
All money raised is donated locally, and stays within the county, so the impact of the funds is local and immediate.
Anyone wishing to place an order may do so by Oct. 7, from any St. Lawrence County Mason, or through the following lodge chairmen:
Massena: Jim Boyce 769-7073
Norwood/Norfolk: Howard Busch 328-4933
Potsdam/Parishville: Glenn Collins 265-9196
Waddington /Madrid: Phil Spadaccini 388-7805
Colton: Carl Parrotte 262-2526 or David Heidenreich 265-3271
