The U.S. Census Bureau is predicting St. Lawrence County lost 495 people in the past year and 1,791 residents in the past decade.
The bureau has not yet released results of the 2010 federal Census, but today it released estimates for counties in all states. Population estimates are revised each year; the actual 2010 Census results for New York State are expected to be released in the next few weeks.
For St. Lawrence County, the estimated population in July 2010 was 109,406, compared to 109,901 in 2009.
The last time actual Census figures were reported, St. Lawrence County had 111,197 people, in 2000.
If the actual 2010 Census figures come in close to the July 2010 estimate, St. Lawrence County will have lost 1,791 people in the past ten year, or 1.6 percent.
