CANTON – St. Lawrence County legislators amended a local law that provides a property tax exemption to Cold War veterans Monday.
Benefits extended to the veterans include a 10 or 15 percent reduction in assessed value. It also includes additional reduction for veterans who incur service-connected disabilities, equal to one-half of the service-connected disability rating Cold War period.
Among the requirements for the exemption is a service time on or between Sept. 2 1945 and Dec. 26, 1991.
The amendment extends the exemption to “qualifying owners of qualifying real property for as long as they remain qualify owners, without regard to such-ten year limitation.”
