St. Lawrence University is in 21st place in the 2013-14 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings following the fall portion of the competition.
Three Saints teams, men's and women's cross country and men's soccer, combined for 176.5 points this fall, helping the Scarlet and Brown to the top-25 showing. The Liberty League had an impressive fall as four institutions landed in the top 80 in Division III, including Hobart/William Smith (18th), St. Lawrence (21st), Skidmore (48th) and Clarkson (77th).
Williams College sits atop the fall standings with 376.0 points, followed by Middlebury, Johns Hopkins, Trinity (TX) and Washington (MO) in the top-5. St. Lawrence finished only .5 points behind Ithaca for 20th place while edging out MIT, Wisconsin Whitewater, North Central and Tufts.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women's and nine men's.
The first Division III winter standings will be released Thursday, March 20, 2014.
