RENSSELAER FALLS -- Whether you are an experienced soybean producer, an agronomy professional, or just beginning to think about growing soybeans, you can learn the latest soybean production tips at a free field workshop being offered in at 781 Kelly Rd., off St. Rt. 68, from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 12.
Soybean acreage has increased steadily in northern NY over recent decades, yet it still has a lot of room to grow.
Ken Wise, an integrated pest management educator with the New York State IPM Program, will take the group into a nearby soybean field to practice scouting for pests and to discuss management of common soybean pests. Crop manager Jeff Hill will discuss his cultural practices. Recommendations for planting rates and methods, based on the latest Cornell research, will also be discussed. Attendees will have a chance to learn about new soybean marketing opportunities and to share ideas with other farmers.
Attendees will be eligible for credits toward DEC pesticide applicator recertification. A light dinner will be served. There is no fee for this event.
