Three sophomores combined for four goals as the St. Lawrence men's hockey team erased two separate one-goal deficits and came back for a 4-3 win over Holy Cross in the regular season home opener at Appleton Arena on Friday night.

Keenan Suthers led the Saints with a pair of special teams' tallies, as he finished with a power play goal and a shorthanded goal for his first career multi-goal game. Cade Gleekel also scored on the man advantage, while Jake Stevens' even-strength goal at the 2:00 mark of the third period served as the game winner. First-year Ted McGeen picked up his first collegiate point with an assist in the win.

With the win the Saints improve to 1-2 on the year, while Holy Cross falls to 1-2.

The Saints trailed 1-0 at the first intermission after the Crusaders' Errka Vanska got a shot to trickle in short side on St. Lawrence netminder Arthur Brey to put the visitors on the board first.

Early in the second period, however, with the Saints on the power play, Suthers evened the score at 1-1 with his first of the game when he banged home a rebound on the back post at 00:38 of the middle frame after Carson Gicewicz's initial shot was stopped by Erik Gordon.

Less than a minute later, this time shorthanded, Gicewicz created a turnover in the neutral zone and carried into the Holy Cross zone on an odd-man rush with Suthers. He dished to the Tecumseh, Ontario native on the right side for a one-touch finish and a 2-1 lead.

At 2:03 of the middle frame, Holy Cross pulled even on a power play goal from Peter Crinella off a rebound in front. The Crusaders then took the lead with a goal from Charlie Barrow at 13:48.

Near the end of the second with the Saints back on the power play, Gleekel notched his first of the season with a quick redirect of a pass from Stevens from below the red line to tie the game at 3-3.

Exactly two minutes into the third period, McGeen and Stevens combined for the game winner in transition as McGeen carried down the left wing side before dishing a perfect pass to Stevens for a one-time from just inside the right point to make it a 4-3 game.

The Saints successfully killed off two penalties after taking the lead in the third period and finished 4-for-5 on the kill on Friday night while also going 2-for-6 on the power play.

Arthur Brey finished with 23 saves in the win and Erik Gordon stopped 22 in the loss for the Crusaders.
