St. Lawrence University senior Wendy Pavlus finished second in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University Thursday night, earning All America honors for the second time outdoors in her career.
Pavlus, running in her first outdoor championship since her first year of intercollegiate track and coming off an illness which forced her to miss the last three meets of her senior season, ran at the front of the field from the first lap on in the race, but could not overtake Williams sophomore Jennifer Gossells who opened a gap late and won the race in 35:11.67 with Pavlus second in 35:25.56. Amanda Laesch of North Central finished third in 35:28.44 in a 22-runner field.
Pavlus is now a five-time All America in track and field with two indoor 5000 meter championships to her credit. She was All America in the steeplechase in her first year and is qualified to run that event on Friday. Pavlus and the Saint coaching staff will make a decision as to whether or not she competes in that event early Friday.
