The St. Lawrence University men's crew concluded two days of competition at the New York State Championships Sunday, highlighted by a second-place finish by the novice 8.
The Saints novice 8 of Mitch Joseph, Mason Vogt, Kyle Benzing, Ted Marr, Matt Farina, Gordon Clarke, Tommy Joyce, Talon Lomahquahu and Drew Twitchell negotiated the course in 6:27.49, beating out West Point, Ithaca, Union and Skidmore. Marist claimed the gold with a time of 6:22.70.
The varsity 4 placed sixth in the petite final with a time of 7:23.56, just behind West Point (7:22.25). The crew consisted of Audrey Strasenburgh, Thaddeus Sipe, Evan Pierce, Andy Caswell and Michael Brewer. Binghamton, Ithaca, Union and Marist were the top four finishers in the event.
The varsity 2 made up of Phil Hodosy at bow and Sam Scheu at stroke was third in its event with a time of 8:24.05, just behind second place Stony Brook (8:23.37). Vassar crossed the finish line first with a time of 7:59.50.
On Saturday, the novice 8 was second in its heat with a time of 6:32.75, while the varsity 4 was sixth in its event heat in 7:26.39.
The Saints will wrap up their season at the ECAC Championships in Worcester, MA on Friday, May 11.
