CANTON – The St. Lawrence University Center for Civic Engagement along with SLU Chi Omega are organizing Shawna’s Walk for Wishes on behalf of local child, Shawna Cummings, to be held on Saturday, Oct. 9 at the university outdoor track.
Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the walk starts at 10 a.m. Rain location is in the SLU fieldhouse.
Shawna, when only 2 weeks old was diagnosed with a rare metabolic disorder called MCADD. She was granted a wish to visit Disney World with her family in 2008 and now wishes to "give back" through this fundraiser.
All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help grant wishes of local children who are diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions.
The fundraising goal is $6,000, which is the amount that would fund one wish.
Raise money as an individual walker, as a team or just give donations. There is no entry fee; however individuals can receive a T-Shirt with a $50 pledge.
Prizes and raffles will also be available as well as fun activities for kids.
