MASSENA -- Residents in the Massena Central School District can begin collecting signatures on nominating petitions for the school board.
Those interested can pick up petitions in the MCSD Business Office on Nightingale Ave. on the high school campus during normal business days between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Two seats will be up for grabs this spring, both of which have five-year terms.
Those two seats are currently held by Board President Paul Haggett and Vice President Kevin Perretta.
Terms will begin July 1.
For those interested, nominating petitions require at least 25 signatures from qualified district voters and must be filed with the district no later than 5 p.m. on April 22.
To qualify, the candidate must be a qualified voter of the district, be at least 18 years of age, be able to read and write, must be a resident of the district at least one year prior to the election and must be the only member of his or her household on the school board, officials say.
The election will take place during the annual school budget vote on May 21.
