Freshman Jamal Samaroo finished second in the long jump and the 4x800 relay team was third to highlight day one competition for the St. Lawrence University men's track and field team in the 2012 New York State College Track Conference Outdoor Championships at the University of Rochester on Friday.
The team of Spencer Fausel, Jack Knych, Tom Metzger and Jon Eng ran 7:55.17, finishing second to RIT by less than a second. Alex Calderwood scored the other Saint points on the track on Friday with a seventh place finish in the 10,000.
In addition to Samaroo's second in the long jump with a 6.66 meter mark, other field event finals on Friday included a fifth by A.J. Blaisdell with a 47.73 meter throw in the hammer, a seventh by Taylor Macci in the pole vault at 4.05 meters and Josh Martel was fourth in the javelin.
In qualifying races Friday, Jarell Roberts advanced to Saturday finals in both the 100 and 200 meters, qualifying in 10.86 meters in the 100 and 22.13 in the 200. Jake Fredericks advanced in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.02 seconds and James May qualified for Saturday's 400 meter final with a 50.51 time.
