The St. Lawrence University women's squash team, ranked #26 nationally, cruised past #24 William Smith on Saturday afternoon in the Robie Squash Courts. The Saints, now 1-1 on the season, won by 3-0 scores in the top five spots en route to their first victory of the season.
First-year student Jill Baker played in the number one spot, defeating Allie Rubin by the scores of 11-1, 11-1, 11-2, while classmate Emily Terry topped Delany Teceno at two, 11-2, 11-6, 11-3.
Junior Brigette Tousignant, first-year student Zoe Kagan, and senior captain Brittany Coxe earned 3-0 victories at three through five.
Tousignant defeated Brooke Hayes (11-1, 11-7, 11-3) at three, Kagan defeated Justine Shank (11-5, 11-5, 11-3) at four, and Coxe defeated Phoebe Carlisle (11-4, 12-10, 11-2) at five. At six, Valeria Quan earned a 3-1 victory over Tyler Mitchell by the scores of 11-6, 11-1, 7-11, 11-4.
Sophomore Sarah Neilson had a hard-fought match at seven against Nellie Lindecke. Neilson took the first two sets (11-9, 12-10), and despite Lindecke tying the match at 2-2 by taking the next two sets 11-8 and 12-10 , Neilson stuck out the victory with a 12-10 win in the deciding set.
Senior captain Carolyn Fisher and first-year student Paige Buchanan rounded out the Saints' scoring with 3-0 victories in the eighth and ninth spot. Fisher topped Erin Casey, 11-6, 11-6, 11-5, while Buchanan beat Hannah Meter, 11-4, 11-8, 11-6.
Senior Parker Benedict also earned a 3-0 victory in the exhibition match, beating Katie Hill 11-0, 11-5, 11-4.
The Saints will be back in action on Dec. 7th in Middlebury with matches against Williams, Bowdoin, or Middlebury.
