RUSSELL -- The Russell Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor “Russell Summer Fest” July 17-18, featuring a block party, fireworks, Big Wheels race, frog jumping competition and chicken barbeque.
On Friday, July 17, Larry Holly will entertain from 9 to 10 p.m. and he will then be joined by his band Echomagnet from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Fireworks will be held at dusk. The Cook Shack will open at 6 p.m.
A chicken BBQ will be served at noon until sold out on Saturday. The meal includes a half chicken, macaroni, potato, and pasta salads; baked beans, roll and dessert. The cost is $8, $7 for seniors, or $5 for a half chicken only.
The frog jumping contest starts at 3 p.m. and will be followed by Big Wheels races at 4 p.m.
