NORWOOD —A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Joe Mariano Playground on the Village Green to celebrate rides which will make it possible for handicapped children to use the play area.
Norwood Kiwanis recently spearheaded a project to provide an all-inclusive playground facility for the village.
Kiwanians John and Susan Fregoe and Margaret Boyle led the project and researched the needs of the children and the types of equipment available.
Through the generosity of the Village of Norwood, the Norwood Fire Department, the Norwood-Norfolk Central School Key Club, and individual donors, three handicapped accessible rides are now available at the playground. The new rides include a fire truck spring rider and two swings, one suitable for 2-5 year olds and one geared toward 6-12 year olds.
Norwood Kiwanis is seeking funding to expand this project to secure similar rides for the Norwood Beach area.
