CANTON -- St. Lawrence County legislators honored journalist John Friot who recently retired after covering the area for more than 30 years.
“John Friot estimates that he has told over 24,000 stories reporting on people, politics, crime, natural disasters, agriculture and all things St. Lawrence County,” the resolution passed Monday says.
Legislators credited Friot for his tenacity and pursuit of a story.
“There was never a question left unasked, and throughout three decades he never lost his enthusiasm for the job,” the resolution said.
Legislators said Friot demonstrated “excellence in the field of journalism by being trustworthy, hardworking and a good listener.” They credited him for leaving a “lasting impression on people” of the county.
“His on-air presence will be missed and the considerable legacy John Friot leaves behind will be forever remembered and admired by the citizens of St. Lawrence County,” the resolution says.
Last month Friot announced his retirement. He has taken a job working for Sen. Patricia Ritchie R-Heuvelton.
