Retired St. Lawrence County Court Judge Eugene L. Nicandri, a longtime trustee of the New York Power Authority, has been named vice chair of the board.
Nicandri, a resident of Massena who retired as a St. Lawrence County Court judge in 2004 after more than 19 years on the bench, has a legacy of legal work benefiting the North Country, including helping to establish the Massena Electric Department in 1981.
Before becoming a county judge, he was a partner in the Massena law firm of Lavigne & Nicandri from 1966 to 1985, and served at various times as the attorney for the towns of Massena, Brasher, Louisville and Lawrence and the village of Massena. He also served as attorney for Massena Memorial Hospital.
He was first nominated to serve as NYPA trustee in 2008 by Gov. David A. Paterson and was reappointed to a second five-year term by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo in 2013.
"Judge Nicandri has been a valued colleague and contributor on the NYPA board for the last seven-and-a-half years,” said John R. Koelmel, NYPA chairman. “The combination of his expertise about the North Country and balanced business perspective has informed many important board decisions. His leadership and guidance as vice chair will be invaluable as the Authority advances its strategic plan in the years ahead."
