CANTON -- The Renewal House annual dinner, on Oct. 11, was a celebration of 35 years of providing services in St. Lawrence County. Lynda Clements was honored for her dedication and support of domestic violence victims that led to the founding of Renewal House.

In 1981, Lynda quickly mobilized others in the North Country to establish a task force so that victims would still have a place to go for housing and services after the closing of the North Country Women’s Shelter.

St. Lawrence Valley Renewal House for Victims of Family Violence, Inc. was formed by this task force with Lynda giving the agency its name. With Lynda and other task force members’ help, Renewal House became incorporated in 1982 and continues to be a stable, safe space for all victims and survivors needing supportive services.
