RENSSELAER FALLS - The annual Remington II canoe and kayak race is set for Saturday, Sept. 1, leaving Rensselaer Falls at 10 a.m. and finishing in Heuvelton at the dam.
The race is roughly six miles long with classes for competitive and recreational canoes and kayaks.
Entrance fees are $5 for paddlers under 18, $10 for active military and veterans, $15 for St. Lawrence Valley Paddlers members, and $20 for non-members. The first 30 people registered will receive commemorative baseball caps.
Registration will be on West Front street in Rensselaer Falls (remember the bridge is out) starting at 8:30 a.m.
There will be awards for genders, solo, tandem and mixed in each boat class.
There is often a group that opts to paddle back to the start after the post-race awards.
Those who are planning to run the Heuvelton 3.7 mile foot race that morning should have time to do both. The Heuvelton Labor Day run registration is at 7:30 a.m. with race start at 8 a.m. at the Heuvelton boat launch. Cost for the foot race is $10.
