To the Editor:
Pitching is all about confidence. There was no pitcher more confident than the very first player in major league history to be awarded the MVP for a world series, Johnny Podres. Before the seventh game of the 1955 World Series he told his teammates “Guys. get me one run and I’ll guarantee we’ll be champions”. The Dodgers got him 2 runs, he shut out the Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers were World Series Champions.
Running an outdoor concert series is all about confidence. “Get me good weather and I’ll run a successful outdoor concert series.” We got good weather.
Of course it takes more than good weather. It takes outstanding performers. It takes an enthusiastic audience, it takes the set-up crew, it takes volunteers at the concession stand, it takes corporate, organization and individual financial support.
We got it all. We exceeded the milestone 500,000th audience member. Our pass-the-bucket set a record. Our donations may be our best ever. Attendance was superb. The delight seen in the faces of the audience was remarkable. And how about those great performers. As a programmer it is always gratifying to “realize” the performance envisioned.
Although our 37th annual season’s announced schedule has been completed, there will be one more concert. The Norwood Village Green Concert Series will conclude its 37th annual season with a special season ending benefit concert presented by The Riverside Brass Quintet. The concert will be given on Thursday, August 19th at 7 p.m. St. Andrew’s Church will be the rain site. The event was added as generous gift to the series by the members of the Riverside Brass Quintet.
Potsdam Brass Quintet’s members are John Schorge and Paul Buell, trumpets, Peter McCoy, trombone, Al Schaberg, horn and Peter Popiel, tuba.
The performance is free but the well-established “pass-the-bucket” manner of donations will be in effect. Donations of $25 or more can also be made by check as the series begins to close out the books on its fiscal year ending on August 31st. With the public’s help a new record for donations may be set. We are very close.
With much confidence and thanks we will begin to plan our 38th annual season.
