Rain expected in the North Country today, tonight, Sunday morning; clearing, warm Monday, forecasters say

Clouds are starting to build in this morning ahead of a warm front that will bring widespread rain showers to the North Country this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Scattered showers and a slight chance of a thunderstorm are expected tonight as temperatures remain fairly warm overnight.

Sunday morning forecasters say a frontal system will pass through the region with showers ending and some clearing behind it for Sunday afternoon with temperatures in the 60s to around 70.

High pressure quickly builds back in to start the work week with the forecast calling for above normal temperatures and dry weather.

High temps today are expected to be in the mid-60s with a 100 percent chance of rain. Temps will drop to below 60 tonight.

There could be gusts tonight as high as 22 mph with an 80 percent chance of rain.

There is an 80 percent chance of more showers Sunday morning, forecasters say, with a high of about 70.

Sunday night, skies will clear with lows dropping below 50 degrees.

For the start of the work week Monday, skies are expected to be clear with highs possibly approaching 80 degrees.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: Occasional showers, mainly after 1pm. High near 65. Light south wind becoming southeast 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, then occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3am. Low around 58. South wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

• Sunday: Showers, mainly before 10am. High near 69. West wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 47. West wind around 6 mph becoming south after midnight.

• Monday: Sunny, with a high near 78. West wind 8 to 10 mph.

• Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 51. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light south after midnight.

• Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.

• Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers after 9pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 54. Southwest wind around 6 mph.

• Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of showers before 9am. Partly sunny, with a high near 72. West wind 5 to 8 mph.

• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 46. North wind 3 to 6 mph.

• Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. West wind 5 to 9 mph.

• Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 51. Southwest wind 7 to 9 mph.

• Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 74. West wind 8 to 10 mph.
