MASSENA -- A proposal included in the preliminary 2020-21 school budget will be aimed at increasing the number of junior high students taking the bus.
At the Thursday, Feb. 13 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Pat Brady said bus rides are offered to grade 7-12 students who live 1 1/2 or more miles from school, and they are considering shrinking that to 1.2 miles for the junior high.
“We have many cases where the bus is picking up a high school kid at that home. A junior high student in the same family is not eligible to ride because there are different distances between their house and the junior high versus their house and the high school,” Brady said.
He said the change was proposed by Allen Rowledge, the district transportation director.
He suggested they may be able to accomplish it without having to spend money to add another bus.
