Project Linus holding ‘Town Squares Challenge’ competition in St. Lawrence County making blankets for needy children

Posted

The Project Linus St. Lawrence County Chapter is holding its first “Town Squares Challenge” to promote awareness of Project Linus while engaging local towns in a friendly competition.

Project Linus is a national nonprofit organization which collects and distributes handmade blankets to children in need.

So the question is, which town can donate the most squares to use for a future “Make-A-Blanket Day”?

The challenge is under way and will run until Oct. 1. Squares must be either 8 inches by 8 inches or 12 inches by 12 inches. They can be knitted, crocheted or be a square piece of fabric. Contributors may be as creative as they want or keep it simple.

At a later date, volunteers will be needed to help attach the squares during the “Make-A-Blanket Day”.

Squares may be mailed to St. Lawrence County Project Linus, P.O. Box 82, Massena, N.Y., 13662.

For more information about the St. Lawrence County chapter of Project Linus and how you can help make a difference, contact Chapter Coordinator Virginia Galligan at 608-7974 or visit www.stlawrencecountyprojectlinuschapter.webs.com.

If you live outside of St. Lawrence County and would like to get involved, go to www.projectlinus.org to find out if there is a chapter in your area.
