POTSDAM — Town council member Toni Kennedy announced that she will not seek re-election to her seat on the board when her term comes due for re-election later this year.

Kennedy made the announcement at the town board meeting March 14.

“Because it’s petition season, I would like to announce that I’m not going to run for re-election,” Kennedy said. “I’ve been on the board for the last five years.”

She mentioned her work as a board member with the town’s Climate Smart Communities program and other initiatives.

“I’m just really thankful for everything that I’ve been able to be a part of the last five years.”

Kennedy said it was now time to step down and let a new candidate come on with the same enthusiasm for the work of the town board.

Kennedy first ran for a town councilors spot in the 2018 election at the age of 26 to finish the unexpired term of Ann Carvill who was appointed to town supervisor following the death of former supervisor, Rollin Beattie.

After that term concluded she ran for a full term in the 2019 election winning one of two spots in a three-way race.

Terms for seats on the Potsdam town board last four years.

Kennedy’s current term concludes in December.
